AffirmaCare: Surgical Readiness Assessments
WELCOME
Private gender clinic located in Abbotsford aiming to address the gap in gender-affirming health care services
MEET JAMIE
Hi, it is so good to have you here. My name is Jamie Tourond (she/her). I am a cisgender Family Nurse Practitioner (MN, NP-f), living and providing care on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Stó:lō people, specifically the Semá:th and Máthxwi First Nations. In 2015, I obtained my Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern British Columbia with a special focus on First Nation Health. My desire to provide quality gender-affirming care quickly grew when I witnessed a good friend of mine trying to access care – the process was discouraging, upsetting, and shocking - I knew the process could be significantly improved. Witnessing this process was the catalyst which fueled my passion for providing high-quality gender-affirming healthcare.
In 2017, I co-founded the Gender Affirming Clinic in my community where I provide care in our public healthcare system. I am a hormone and surgical readiness assessor for BC and Montreal and provide ongoing care for many Two-Spirit, trans, and gender-diverse youth and adults. I am also a mentor for Trans Care BC Clinical Mentorship calls. This aspect of my career has been the most rewarding. Seeing patients flourish to their fullest potential is an honour to witness – thank you for trusting me at this stage of your journey.
